In a strange way, the roughness of Amsterdam East – what is left of it, at least – makes me think of New York. Not the New York of skyscrapers, stock exchange and fine dining, but rather of New York the harbour city, with its industrial landscape, piers and former warehouses along the Hudson and the East rivers. The “illusion” becomes even more real when I listen to this made in New York album by one of my favourite artists. Such as this Saturday morning, when I woke just in time to see a post-sunrise Amsterdam East.
