Sunday I got to spend the entire day in Amsterdam East. I met some friends for brunch at the New Werktheater and some other friends for a glass of wine at 4850.
The New Werktheater is a rather new addition to the neighbourhood, one I am going to visit many times in the future, be it for a cup of coffee, for brunch or – what I am now really curious to experience – for dinner. On this occasion we had brunch and I must say each item tasted delicious. Without any exaggeration, those eggs benedict on brioche bread were the best I’ve had so far. I am happy there are places like these in town, where you feel good enough – and spoiled enough, too – to linger for hours, without any pressure to leave. And why would you go? The ambience is so nice and interesting, the leather sofas are comfortable, the light pouring through the floor-to-ceiling windows is so inviting.
A few minutes before four, I was walking along the Wibautstraat, on my way to 4850. This coffee place during the day and wine bar during the evening was such a nice surprise! We didn’t taste their coffee this time, but we had a few glasses of wine from their special selection. We’ve also indulged in a fish salad on rye bread, with old cheese and pickled onion – delicious! We will be back for more next time.
