My life in Amsterdam is happening in either the East or West, passing by through the Center. It’s quite rare that I go to the North or South. Just a matter of preference, I guess.
There is nevertheless one place that makes exception to this rule – De Pijp, the lively neighbourhood in Amsterdam Zuid (South). I try to stay away from it in the weekend (too busy), but it’s nice on a Wednesday afternoon.
I met Dragos in De Pijp on such day – I no longer work on Wednesdays, he took the day off – and we just walked along the narrow, residential streets, through the Albert Cuypmarkt, only stopping for food or to get into one of the many boutique shops in the area (I was looking for a little present).
As Dragos said, it felt amazing to be doing this in the middle of the week, at a time when we were supposed to be at our desks, typing e-mails on our computers, and staring at the screen, thinking life was happening somewhere else – outside. On that particular Wednesday life for us happened in De Pijp.
