Stepping into Lavinia’s lovely shop in The Hague feels like entering a classy living room. Better yet, it feels like entering another world – one of elegant lamps, gracious furniture, old books and photographs, and delicate china.
Cakes’n Buttons is Lavinia’s wonderland, the playground where her passion for cooking takes the shape of stories delicately written in Valrhona chocolate. Just take a look at her cakes and you will see that what comes out of Lavinia’s hands is nothing short of amazing.
Besides mouth-watering, organic cakes, Lavinia also makes artisan bread, and she sometimes organises workshops and presentations to share stories on her favourite subject – food. Her dreams include writing a history of food someday, as the passion for cooking is only surpassed by her big affection for books, and the stories hidden between their covers.
I was happy to visit the shop for the first time this past Sunday and let myself charmed by the beautiful world Lavinia has created. Although we’ve never met before, it felt like visiting an old friend – that’s how warm Lavinia’s welcoming was. I will go back for sure, not only to indulge into her sweet treats paired with aromatic teas and good coffee, but also to get a bit of Lavinia’s magic and her contagious enthusiasm.
