As I`ve said many times before, to me weekends are meant for exploring the city. And what better way of starting a day of walking in Amsterdam than with a hearthy breakfast?
We chose Bar Spek for our morning meal last weekend. I`ve always thought it had a funny name: “Bar Bacon”. 🙂
Located on Admiraal de Ruijterweg, at the very limit between Oud-West and De Baarsjes, Bar Spek is a typical Amsterdam neighbourhood café, obviously loved by the locals. It does feel homey and friendly.
Our only issue was deciding what to choose from the menu (which is always a good sign, right?). Both the food and drinks lists looked very promising. I particularily liked the separation of their breakfast dishes into “Saint” (healthier choices) and “Sinner” (tasty, decadent food).
Looking at the photos below, it`s easy to see we are no saints when it comes to brunch, especially when there are pancakes involved! And they make them the very Dutch way here at Bar Spek.
Needless to say that when leaving Bar Spek we had plenty of energy to go for a long walk in De Baarsjes and Oud-West, but that is another story which will come to you in another post.
