When you think of an Amsterdam home, in most cases you tend to visualise the typical narrow house by the canal that the city is so famous for.
However, as mentioned many times on this blog, Amsterdam has a lot more to offer in terms of housing and my favourite items on this list are the houses in the Eastern Docklands (click here for the sunny version!).
I like the docks because they remind me of the old Amsterdam with shipyards and warehouses – nowadays serving as apartment buildings – and because there is an overall sense of space and peace in the area, to which the generous waterfront surely contributes.
Having said that, there is no wonder I am always happy whenever I can step inside one of these apartments, especially when the reason is to visit friends on a Sunday afternoon and indulge into some of their freshly baked apple pie. 🙂
It feels different and privileged to live into one of these former warehouses when you know how to sync your home with the spirit of the building and with that of the area.
This home definitely manages to capture the essence of things.
