If there is one area in Amsterdam where I get mostly by chance, with absolutely no intention of going there, that would be the network of shopping streets crossing the canals of Amsterdam known as the 9 Straatjes (9 Streets).
It`s not that I don`t like these streets, the little shops along them or the people sipping lattes on the many terraces nearby. But, as I said before, I cannot seem to find a real reason to go there. It is a bit too crowded for my taste (I gave up long time ago trying to find a seat at Screaming Beans to have a cup of their supposedly delicious coffee, for example) and whenever of I see something that I like in the nicely decorated windows of these shops (an old lamp, a nice bag etc.) the price sort of doesn`t sound right.
However, two weeks ago we needed to get to the 9 Straatjes for a reason. And, surprise, for a second we realised we didn`t actually know how to get there! This is how much we love the area! It is the second place in Amsterdam that I had problems in finding. The first one was The Red Light District.
So here are some photos we took on that specific day, two weeks ago, at the 9 Straatjes (not so crowded on this occasion, as the weather was quite grey):
At the end of it, all we wanted to do was to have a coffee in the totally laid back atmosphere of the Coffee Company Waterlooplein – like so many times before..
