In a city almost completely taken over by tourists (like I`ve seen no other so far, not even Paris!), it`s rather difficult to get a sense of what it feels like to be living in Rome.
After two days of wondering the streets in order to reach the must-see places, I still couldn`t give my opinion about Rome. The history of the city is indeed impressive and its architecture is a beautiful story. But what about the contemporary spirit of the city? And where are the Romans?
Luckily, the revelation happened yesterday when reaching Monti, probably Rome`s most beautiful district, with hilly narrow streets, cosy cafes and restaurants and with lots of trendy boutiques and artisan shops especially along Via Urbana, Via del Boschetto and Via dei Serpenti. And there, in these streets, and in the main square / meeting point of the area – Piaza della Madonna dei Monti – I finally got the chance to meet the Romans!
Now I know that, if I ever come back to Rome, this is the place for me!
