It’s great to be back in Amsterdam, back to my place and habits, after so much time spent in Lisbon this summer. I almost felt like I lived there and knew everything around. Such a surprise to go to the market on Saturday morning and see a man dressed up in white singing opera songs from his window, and people stopping under the window, putting down their bags with groceries, and applauding him. And then the sun, the Sunday walk down Haarlemmerdijk with a cup of coffee in my hand, the stop at The Movies to catch the early afternoon film. I haven’t met anyone these days (except for a short visit on Saturday), but I haven’t felt alone for a second. And I was thinking that it is simply impossible to feel alone in Amsterdam as the city itself is so warm and familiar. Its streets might not be full of people drinking mojitos at night, walking around and partying until the break of dawn, but it gives me a comfort feeling that no other place could ever offer. It’s just wonderful to be back home!
