Notice the difference between the architecture in the western part of Amsterdam (photo no. 1) and the architecture in the eastern part of the city (photo no. 2). The fact that the West was developed to shelter the working class during the industrial period it is visible in the lack of details and adornments. We can`t say the same thing about the East, which is much more pleasant to the eye. It is also the place where many cultural and academic institutions can be found. The eastern part of Amsterdam reminds me somehow of Paris and its Art Nouveau architecture. It`s like a different city within a city. Beautiful!
