The task that I set for myself was to buy the perfect vase! Yes, yes, the vase is a very important object in Dutch homes and it is always full of flowers.
And so, I found myself alone on the streets of Amsterdam thinking of the perfect vase and hoping that this little project of mine won`t end up the way my “searching for the perfect water glasses” project ended (meaning: no perfect glasses in Amsterdam).
Hopefully, it was not the case, as I found what I was looking for and so I was very happy.
But what I was really trying to say was that today, after five weeks of living in Amsterdam, I`ve been really happy to actually live here. Well, I used to be happy for that before, too, but I was still not sure I could turn this city into a glove which perfectly matched my hand.
However, time went by, the boots took the flip-flops` place, the relaxation produced, the tram came right on time, the smiles continued at the supermarket, in the bookstore, the cars disappeared, the stress caused by traffic as well and they made room for bicycles, boats and small ships… I find it really amazing to look around and not see a single thing to disappoint or depress me!
Amsterdam is full of tourists every time, but in the week-end it gets really packed by them. Of course I find it annoying not being able to walk down the streets because of too many tourists! Of course I find it funny how they stop to take pictures of everything they see! Of course I find it hilarious how they buy tulip bulbs and various marijuana – XXX – mushroom – wooden clogs – wind mills – related stuff!
To be quite honest, it is all these that have made me have this revelation today: no plane to catch, no need to be desperate to take a thousand photos in a day, no need for souvenir shopping… And all these because I was not leaving this time!
I`ve returned home smiling, together with the perfect vase, and I felt happy. Just like that.
