Andra Stefan is originally from Bucharest, Romania.
Soon after her move to the Netherlands – in Summer 2010 – and pursuing her passion for photography and writing, she founded Amsterdamming, a blog aiming to document her life in the city and to capture the mood of Amsterdam in both images and words.
When not at her desk writing about the bright and the not so bright side of living in a new country, travel, and other experiences, she is doing photo shoots in the homes and the streets of Amsterdam. The year 2020 brought her back to yet another all-time favourite activity: painting. You can watch her daily endeavours on her Instagram account, @amsterdamming.
Collaborations and clients include Lonely Planet, Porter & Sail, citizenM, Meininger Hotels, Meet the Blogger, Marie Stella Maris, Sacha, Sensa Magazine.

Hello Andra…I just stumbled across this website. I, too, lived on Antilenstraat. I lived there from 1969 to 1975 as a young boy. I moved to America in 1975 and had not returned to Holland in more than 42 years. In 2017, my wife and I vacationed in Holland and I got to see Antillenstraat for the first time since I was a young boy. I remembered everything. The Montessori School I attended around the corner is now a Refugee Center. I grew up playing Voetbal on the concrete playground. The corner market was owned back then by Mr. Kragtwijck at the time, but still stands. I had to make a purchase there. I lived at 26 on the 3rd floor. My Oma and Opa lives at 17 on the 2nd floor. So many wonderful memories.
Gary, thank you for your message! I, too, lived at 26, on the 4th floor, in a loft belonging to the apartment on the 3rd. Does this mmean I lived in your former apartment? 🙂
I love your blog thanks for the fantastic photos of this beautiful city
very happy to hear that! welcome! 🙂
Hi!
Amsterdam is not just coffeeshops and museums, there are a lot of hidden gems and hidden corner…I’m trying to put them all together on my blog:http://www.inAmsterdam.com/ .
Are you in for a link exchange? I don’t write about dutch food, so I think it would be a nice add to my blog!
Cheers!
Phil
I love Amsterdam to and crossed over your blog today. It is great and fun to read as I live there. 🙂
Nice. Love this pic: http://amsterdamming.files.wordpress.com/2013/01/romania00.jpg. I know, guilty as hell, it’s not amsterdam. But they are sooo cute.
What a great collection here and on flickr. Great images and great philosophy!
Thank you!
Would you mind if I use your pictures on my page on Amsterdam:

I can put a message under it that I got the picture from this website?
Hi Jan, which pictures are you interested in? Thanks!
Several:) Like one of the autumn colors. I updated the look and feel of my website yesterday btw, hope you like it:)
Hi Jan, please mention under each photo the source (www.amsterdamming.com), thanks! God luck with the website!
love
I love Amsterdam too! As an artist and writer, I believe I owe it to myself to at least visit, if not relocate some day. I wonder if that is possible. For now, I remain content in Seattle. Perhaps I’ll try to open up my blog more to Seattle scenes. It happens now and then on my blog but only when the mood really strikes me.
I am also writing as dictated by the mood, but I`ve noticed that some discipline is not hurting either, especially for the readers of the blog. On the contrary!
Well said.
Henry, you’ll find very similar weather there. Never very cold, but lots of rain in the winter. I’m more familiar with Vancouver. In Amsterdam you’ll remain close to the sea, but you’ll miss the mountains!
I live in Montréal, which is a wonderful city, but unfortunately the winters are much colder, especially the last one. I didn’t cycle for three months, which made me very unhappy. Beautiful early autum day today, though!
I appreciate your response! I look forward to experiencing Amsterdam for myself in the future.
Best documentation of Amsterdam I have ever seen 🙂
Thank you, Ahmed!
love your photos, thanks
I’m thankful to Rosa from Una Mirada B that reblogged part II of your ”Glorious Days of Summer in Amsterdam”! So very nice to meet you! Lia
Thanks for the nice words, Lia! Welcome! 🙂
Great job si MULTUMESC!:)
I can understand a fair bit of Romanian, as I speak Italian fluently. It is much closer to Italian than it is to French or other Romance languages.
iti doresc o zi insorita:::
nu e greu cand pleci, dar devine cu timpul. 🙂 ma bucur ca iti place blogul, te mai astept!
I really enjoyed your interview in the expat blog. It is fortunate that nowadays, it is far easier to keep in touch with your family and friends back home, with the Internet, Skype etc. When I was studying in Italy in the 1980s, the post there was very, very slow and international phone calls were extremely expensive – I only phoned my mum, and couldn’t afford to do so more than twice a month. I didn’t have a phone there, and portable phones were pretty much non-existent.

I love the photos on your blog. What’s the best time to visit Amsterdam?
Glad you like the photos! To answer your question, I would say September. But then… Amsterdam is beautiful all throughout the year. Especially if it`s sunny! 🙂
September sounds great, I like sunny : ) Also, what lens do you shoot with?

Thanks!
Brittany

Hi Andra, for a reason or an other there is not the button “like” anymore at the end of your post. Something else, your posts do appear on my WordPress feed but with the button “follow” while I’m following you for a while. Any idea how it comes? Is it my computer or did you made adjustments? Keep up the great work!! Cheers, Carole
Thanks to let me know! I will take a look to see why, I had no idea. 🙂
You have beautiful writing.
Hello and congrats for the nice blog! I’m a romanian too currently living in Romania and one of my dreams is to move in Amsterdam. Please, never stop writing! Your blog posts give me hope and encourages me to follow my goal of moving there. Many thanks for this blog and happy holidays!
Multumesc! 🙂 Happy New Year!
Hello Andra, how is everything going?
I’m still very happy to read your posts!, especailly now that I’m so far away from my hometown Amsterdam. You’re keeping me up to date with the latest urban changes… and really catch those (seasonal) moods of the city. It’s lovely to see all those places, neighbourhoods where I lived and where I grew up. I’m always looking if a can see some friends or family on a bike in your pictures or taking a coffee somewhere 😉
How is the reading of Jip en Janneke going? 😀
Un abrazo desde Colombia.
Rosa
(Note: I wonder what happended to your like bottons?)
Hi Rosa, happy to hear back from you!Like buttons are gone because I switched to another web hosting platform.
Can’t even remember if I ever finished Jip en Janneke, hahaha 🙂
Wish you all the best in Colombia!
Thanks! When I’m visiting Amsterdam again -this won’t be soon-, I would like to invite you for a coffee in the Kinkerbuurt… 😀 Bye for now and take care. Rosa
Love your pics
Hi! I just realise I ‘stole’one of your pictures as a (temporary) backdrop for my L’in profile.
I cannot give you credit for it. (I can see if at one time I can ask for you an assignment though : ) )
I can give you a nice plant however if we’d meet over a coffee one day. Or I can look for another photo.
Please let me know.
Hi Tanja, You may use it in your profile, no problem!
