Last time I had brunch in town was before the summer holiday. I am more than happy to go back to this habit, especially when there are places in Amsterdam such as Yerba – the choice for this past Sunday.
Located in De Pijp neighbourhood, this “plant forward restaurant space for creative, seasonal dining” was more than I had expected. We ordered Jalapeno cornbread with roasted corn cob, beetroot hollandaise, and tomato salsa & spiced zucchini beignets with zhoug and dill yoghurt, root to seed broccoli salad, and toasted freekeh. For dessert, we shared a stack of pumpkin pancakes with salted pecan and pumpkin maple sauce. What a treat!
You know you ate well when you leave the table feeling energized, rather than wishing to roll to bed immediately. So, together with my partners in crime, Jharda and Elizabeth, we walked to the centre, where we sat for a glass of wine – just because the weather was great and none of us was rushing to put an end to the weekend just yet.
I will return to Yerba for dinner. If food tastes so good for brunch, I can only imagine what one of their dinner plates would be like.
