It’s Summer in Amsterdam today. What a feeling to sit outside on the balcony, barefoot, and look at the trees, the sky, the sunset… It brings back memories of the most beautiful Summers I can remember.
Summer 2012: LISBON, Portugal
It was my second visit to perhaps my favourite city in the world, seven years since our first encounter. It was also the first holiday I’ve ever spent with my boyfriend. I have such fond memories: the beautiful apartment on the hill, near Jardim do Torel, church bells in Alfama on a peaceful Sunday morning, drinking Mojitos on the streets of Bairro Alto at night, the surfers at Guincho beach, the trip to Sintra… You can see the photos here and here. I also made a movie at the end of this holiday, to better capture the feelings.
Summer 2013: ROME, UMBRIA & TOSCANA, Italy
This holiday must have been the longest we’ve ever had. It started with four days in Rome, where we fell in love with Monti neighbourhood and with Giardino degli Aranci – I will never forget that sunset over the city! – then drove all the way to Umbria, where we spent 10 days in a traditional villa in the Italian countryside. Umbria and its people charmed me completely, and I wrote about it in several episodes. We also visited the idyllic Toscana, including the city of Florence. What a gorgeous, enriching holiday that was! As for Italian people, they are some of the kindest I know.
Summer 2014: SANTORINI, Greece
Did we really go to Santorini or was it just a dream? This is what first comes to mind when thinking about our holiday on the Greek island. We stayed in Oia, no doubt the most picturesque place on the island – if not in the whole word. I wrote about the whole experience soon after we returned, and thank God for that, it means it was all for real!
Summer 2014: DANUBE DELTA, Romania
Danube Delta is a place that needs no further introduction on this blog. You must know by now that this is the place I cherish the most, and you also know why. I’ve been to the Danube Delta many times before, but the memories of this particular holiday are some of the best. The necessary ingredients were all there: it was a family holiday, and it was boring. Meaning we spent the time in each other’s company, with absolutely no distractions. We cooked, we ate, we played Rumy, we made coffee, we went by boat on the canals… It felt as if we had all the time in the world.
Summer 2016: LISBON, Portugal
After one year with no Summer holiday – we moved into our new apartment in August 2015 – we asked ourselves this question in 2016: where would our hearts like to travel to the most? The answer was Lisbon. Yes, we love this city – I said it before, I will say it again. My sister joined us and together we spend one of those holidays you just know you’ll remember forever. The heart beats faster when looking at these photos and when watching this movie I made. Our apartment was located in Principe Real neighbourhood – I still dream to live there one day!
Do you also have this Summer feeling these days?
