Birmingham is the largest and most densely populated British city outside London. Its six universities make it the second largest educational centre in the UK.
If this means nothing to you, then think of Birmingham as being the birth place of heavy metal music, with bands such as Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, and (half of) Led Zeppelin having all come from here. Other popular bands and artists from the city are UB40, Duran Duran and Ozzy Osborne. And when the busiest shop in city`s largest shopping centre is the music shop, then it`s easy to see that the city still has music in its DNA.
Furthermore, Birmingham is a city full of energy, with a nice mix of nationalities living here. It is a city with character, visible in the red brick walls of its beautiful Victorian buildings, in the iron bridges across its canals and in the repurposed old factories reminding of the Industrial Revolution.
We must have spent less than six hours in the city on our latest visit, yesterday afternoon, enough to experience all of the above and, besides, to enjoy the Christmas market and a “healthy” shopping spree. 🙂
