When weekend approaches, the first thing that comes to my mind is… brunch!
Brunch is rebellious.
It`s not breakfast, as getting up early is the last thing you want to do on a Saturday or Sunday; it`s not lunch either, as the food is mainly eggs and pancakes, so something one would normally have in the morning. It`s brunch!
Brunch is lazy.
You might have to wake up at 6:30 AM from Monday to Friday to give you some time for a quick coffee and a small bite before rushing out of the door, but in the weekend you are free to sleep in. You can stay in bed until 11:00 or 12:00 and still enjoy an amazingly delicious brunch!
Brunch is cheerful.
It is feeding the belly just as much as it nourishes the soul. Because what are all those oozy Benedicts and spicy Blody Marrys without friends, nice conversations and laughter over one too many cups of latte? That`s what brunch is for!
Brunch is decadent.
Flakes with youghurt at home or a muffin grabbed at the train station might be adequate for Monday to Friday mornings, but in the weekend we have brunch! Hollandaise sauce pouring over a pair of Benedict eggs on a bed of ripe avocados, sweet maple syrup dripping over a mountain of pancakes spaced by forest fruits or bananas, fluffy waffles sunken in sticky caramel sauce… Need I say more?
While Amsterdam has its fair share of brunch institutions, my favourite places remain those where good food is mixing with friendly service – all in a relaxed, not overy crowded atmosphere.
I therefore find myself going quite often to Drovers Dog (the one in East, as it`s closer) and here are some photos I took on my latest visit, when my boyfriend`s parents visited us in Amsterdam:
May brunch be with you! 🙂

Brunch is my favorite meal. And this place looks fabulous! Adding this to the list for when I make it to Amsterdam.
