Not everyone in Amsterdam is crazy about the idea of living in some cute, yet small and rather unpractical narrow house in the centre.
There are people who like to live large. Literally! And there is no place in the city where this is more visible than in Willemspark, the luxurious residential area South-East of Vondelpark, in Amsterdam Zuid (South).
Impressive mansions and expensive cars – something so rare anywhere else in the city – are to be seen at every corner in this posh neighbourhood. Willemspark is actually one of the most expensive neighborhoods in Amsterdam.
One would say this is the perfect place to live, but to be honest it felt no more than a suburbia to me. There was barely anything going on in those streets and we felt quite uncomfortable with our cameras. “Two lost tourists” – the residents might have thought about us. 🙂
The moment we entered Vondelpark, we were brought back to our senses by the liveliness and joyfulness of all the people around. We soon forgot about the “ghost town” feeling of Willemspark.
Its beautiful mansions are always to be admired though.
