It serves as a center for media, culture, fashion and crafts and it comprises (among others) a hotel, a library, a movie theater – De Film Hallen, a gallery, a design studio, a restaurant, a hair styling school and even a nursery.
The Local Goods Market is organized here every weekend and is promoting independent brands from Amsterdam area. Basically, all products offered are designed and/or created in Amsterdam: bicycles, clothes, bags, lamps, furniture, books, as well as home-brewed beer, chocolate and ice cream.
However, the biggest attraction at De Hallen remains the indoor food market – De Food Hallen – the place to be in Amsterdam! Packed with people during the weekend, it is the perfect destination for a Thursday or Friday evening.
In the middle of the various food stalls, from where you can grab your plate of cold meats and cheese, spring rolls, sushi, pizza, pasta, mezze, falafel, fish & chips, burgers etc., stands the Gin & Tonic bar, my absolutely favourite place in the entire building. There is also a bar for beer and one for wine.
I love to come to De Hallen Amsterdam to see a movie, then grab something to eat and enjoy a big glass of grapefruit & lychee Gin & Tonic at the gin bar.
Most of the times, it`s difficult to find a seat anywhere at De Food Hallen, but the crowd is friendly, so all you have to do is mingle with it and enjoy the experience!
