Noordermarkt, the picturesque square in the Jordaan overlooked by the Noorderkerk, used to be the most lively area of Old Amsterdam.
On Monday mornings the Noordermarkt is home to a small flea market, where you’ll find a mix of second-hand goods for sale, ranging from antiques and books to clothes and household kitsch.
But it`s on Saturday that the Noordermarkt becomes the sparkling heart of Amsterdam, when the organic farmers’ market is held here. This farmers` market is so popular, that it draws crowds from distant cities in the Netherlands, all for the purpose of getting fresh, tasty and healthy produce, such as natural made cheese, biological eggs, fresh fish, bread, honey, herbs, spices, nuts, mushrooms, fruits, flowers etc.
No wonder the place is full of life, colourful and fascinating. The Noordermarkt op Zaterdag (“Northern Market on Saturday”) is the place to be in Amsterdam on this particular day, a true feast for your eyes and taste!
Take a look at these photos taken earlier today, in between purchasing some fresh bread, some goat cheese, grapes, green olives and some pine tree branches for the house! 🙂
