I`ve always said that in Amsterdam it`s a crime not to go out on a sunny day. Considering just how hard it is to find a free seat on a terrace when the sun is shining, I could draw the conclusion that I am not the only one thinking this way.
So it`s become a rule for us to go out in the sun whenever it happens to appear on the sky of Amsterdam. “Do we take the camera or we just relax and enjoy the walk?” – this is the (eternal) question my boyfriend asks me as we prepare to leave the house. “We take the camera and enjoy the walk!” – it`s my answer.
Most of the times we have absolutely no idea where we`re heading to, but as long as we`re walking into the sun, it doesn`t make much of a difference. After all, it`s just a matter of East (Flevopark, Entrepotdok) or West (Westerpark, Jordaan). 🙂
This sunny weekend seemed to have been entirely dedicated to the West. After an amazing day in Westerpark – under a shower of cherry blossom – on Saturday, Sunday was just about time for a walk in the Jordaan.
And I must say that, whenever I find myself walking down the narrow streets of this beautiful district, I am absolutely convinced that it must have been here in Jordaan that the Dutch word “gezellig” was used for the first time!
Coming back to the question “Do we take the camera or we just relax and enjoy the walk?“, imagine what a tragedy must be to find yourself here (see photos below) and realise you do not have a camera!
