And then they come: those days when you don`t feel like doing anything (hobbies, meeting people, going to the movies, reading etc.), but you don`t want to stay idle at home either.
These are the days when all I want to do is get out and walk. And there is one particular destination in Amsterdam where I like to hear my steps hitting the pavement: Bilderdijkstraat in Oud-West (a street in the Western part of the city).
I have never particularly chosen to like this street, I guess it was the street who chose me. It happened that I used to live closeby in my first years in Amsterdam and that I took many walks along Bilderdijkstraat during both my happy and not so pleasant times of my living in this city. I think this helped us bond somehow. I can say this about the entire Oud-West area. I could not find a subsitute for it in whole Amsterdam. But how could I anyway, when this is, after all, the place where I spent what I like to call “my childhood in Amsterdam”? 🙂
