I`ve never managed to formulate a clear personal opinion about Amsterdam-Noord, that part of the city situated just across the IJ. It is Amsterdam, yet it doesn`t have anything in common with the classic images which come to mind whenever thinking of this city.
I only cross the IJ to go to a couple of places in the Noord, such as EYE Film Museum, Pllek, IJ-Halen (for the flea market) and, like this past Sunday, to the Affordable Art Fair (AAF), this time organized on “the other side of the river”.
As the weather was totally crazy, the trip was all about going to this fair and nothing more. I will come back with more photos from the AAF in a future post.
However, it was nice to take the ferry back to the classical part of Amsterdam and return home with a bunch of fresh red tulips bought from the train station. I guess I needed something to cheer me up after the heavy combination of Noord and rain. 🙂
P.S.: What you see in the first photo is not Amsterdam-Noord, but the Eastern Docklands as seen from there.
